Diaspora

Originally referring to the Jewish people who were forcibly ‘scattered’ from their homeland, the term is now used to talk about any population who are displaced from their ancestral lands. Think, for example of Caribbeans in Britain, South Asians in Canada, the Irish in the United States or the Maori in Australia.
